Effective
January 1, 2001, you can choose the company that supplies the
electricity you use. There are several types of competitive
suppliers and buying groups.
Competitive Retail Electric Service (CRES) Providers include companies that supply electricity as a retail generation provider, a power marketer or power broker. A list of competitive suppliers operating in AEP's Ohio service area is available in printable format:

An aggregator is a person or organization that brings a group of consumers together to buy electricity. An aggregator may be able to get lower prices or other benefits for the group members. A list of aggregators operating in AEP's Ohio service area is available in printable format:

In November, 2000, voters in more than 130 Ohio communities (municipalities, townships, etc.) approved plans giving officials authority to aggregate retail load. A list of governmental aggregators operating in AEP's Ohio service area will be available soon.
