Electric Choice arrived in Ohio on January 1, 2001. Electric Choice brings many changes including the opportunity to choose your electric supplier.
In the past, all the components of electric service -- generation, transmission and distribution -- were combined as one service. Now, the generation part -- the electricity itself -- is open to choice. AEP will continue to deliver the electricity through the poles and wires in use today.
You can choose a new electric supplier with confidence. All electric suppliers in Ohio must be certified by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) before they can sign up customers. If for some reason your supplier does go out of business, you will be switched back to AEP until you can choose a new supplier, subject to any minimum stay requirements.
And because AEP will continue to deliver your electricity, you can expect the same level of safety you have known in the past. AEP customers who experience an outage or have questions about service still will call AEP at 1-800-277-2177 (CSP customers) or 1-800-672-2231 (OP customers).
