Texas
Electric Choice
Beginning
Jan. 1, 2002, most customers of investor-owned
utilities in Texas may choose
an alternate retail electric provider (REP). A REP is
the company that may compete to provide the electricity you
use. Your local utility company will continue to deliver
that power to you safely and reliably through the same lines
in use today.
Texas' electric industry restructuring legislation, passed in 1999, provides that, effective with the January 2002 meter reading dates, customers who have not actively chosen a new REP will begin to receive service from a REP affiliated with their local utility company.
The following pages provide additional about your rights, your options and about protections provided for you. For more information, please contact the Public Utility Commission of Texas' Electric Choice program at www.powertochoose.org or 1-866-PWR-4-TEX.
