Making The Switch
Switching to a new service provider is easy - just tell that company that you
would like it to be your new provider. You will need to provide your Service
Delivery Identifier (SDId), which can be found on your
monthly bill. Your new provider will contact your current supplier to arrange
the switch. Generally, the switch will occur on your next scheduled meter read
date, but a letter will be sent to you confirming this.
Here are a few items to remember as you move from one provider to another.
- You will receive a written notice of your planned switch
and you will have 10 days to change your mind or to advise
AEP that you did not authorize the switch. If you agree
with the switch, you do not need to respond to the letter.
- If you switch to a new provider you may become subject
to the competitive transition charge.
- Once you have switched to a new service provider, you
may return to regulated service from AEP at any time. You
may be subject to early cancellation fees
from your provider so be sure to check the terms of your contract.
- You may choose to have your switch become effective
on a date other than your meter read date; however, you
will
be charged for AEP's extra trip
to your location to take a special meter reading.
- Various account services you currently have - payment
agents, electronic funds transfer, payment plans, assistance
programs, etc. - may
or may not carry over to your new service. Be sure to ask about
them.
- You will not be without electric service. Customers
who are unable to shop for a provider, choose not to shop
or sign up with a provider who at some point
fails to serve you for any reason other than nonpayment will
be assigned to a default service provider.
